Phantom Village, the myth of the new Glasgow was published in 1990 (it was written in 1989, sandwiched between the Garden Festival in 1988 and the ‘Year of Culture’ in 1990) during a period of concerted and sustained debate on Scottish cultural politics and history. It has been considered by some as a seminal work on the representation of Glasgow, attacking much of the sentimental or simplistic writing on the city.

For the thirtieth anniversary of its publication we are releasing an ebook of a facsimile of the original book together with a new preface and introduction by the author.
